He lives in the countryside, 10 km away from the city of Falluja. But this didn't shield his home from assault by US troops. Late one night, the quiet and peaceful farming area suddenly turned into a hot zone. US tanks and warplanes surrounded and bombed this man's house, killing 13 and injuring 27. Next morning, when the bombing stopped, US soldiers raided his home, destroyed his furniture and his car, and even stole the money from a wallet his brother had left in the house. After it was all over, one of the soldiers, seemingly realizing that they had destroyed a farmer's home, not a military target, said to him, "I'm sorry." The farmer now recalls what happened and says quietly, "Saying 'I'm sorry' does not help. It doesn't bring the dead back to life."
