The main hospital was unreachable because US troops had attacked and occupied it, and so the injured and the dead were taken to small clinics, some nothing more than makeshift facilities. While the Western media claimed that most of the dead and injured were fighters, the doctor testifies in English that "Many of my patients were women, children and old people. Of the dead, over 700, about 25 percent were children and another 25 percent were women. This is because US troops attacked houses with people inside."
